Stand on East 12th Rocks
The place is pretty pretentious but the burger is sublime. I visited Stand for lunch today with expert burger taster Kris and was pleased to find that the burger was as good as it was the last time I visited (a year ago). I'm not a fan of the flame-grilled burger but Stand knows what they are doing. The 7 ounce patty was cooked to perfection and topped simply with carmelized onions and a 'house sauce'. The menu options are totally confusing and I'm glad I ordered correctly (I got the 'House' burger). A waiter told me the house sauce had 'like 40 ingredients' (doubtful) but that the Kewpie mayo-based sauce had some paprika in it. It was basically Kewpie mayo mixed with paprika and it was amazing. Sorry for the out-of-focus cell phone burger shot. It kinda looks like 99% of the burger porn fans send me from their phones on a daily basis (and I love it).

Stand is definitely pretentious, but I think the burger is a little underwhelming. I will say, the green peppercorn sauce is damn good, and in fact, all their sauces are noteworthy, including the mayo.
Still, as grandiose and hip as this place is, the burgers are somewhat disappointing. They're tasty sure, but, for my money, I'd rather suck back a juicy messy burger at the Stoned Crow on Washington Place, or at Molly Malone's n Gramercy, than pinky-finger this dainty thing!
Great pic by the way.
Also, George, have you checked out the burger at Sullivan Diner in the village? It will not disappoint.

Hmmmm, have not been to Sullivan before, at least not for a burger. I try to stay away from most restaurants on or near Bleecker St for the most part (except for the Five Guys on Lafayette). The Stoned Crow burger is great, and being prepared by an ex-employee of Corner Bistro...
Hamburger America-
Though I appreciate your Bleecker Street Boycott (I love around the corner on MacDougal), you should lift your ban, and really check out Sullivan. I've had consistently good burgers there, though I haven't been by there in a few months for whatever reason.
Good point on ex-CB guy at Stoned Crow. My complaint about that place is sometimes you'll walk in there, and the kitchen will be randomly closed. Given how good the burgers are at the 'Crow, I wonder if CB knows theirs aren't what they used to be...
thoughts?

Corner Bistro is always better when they are busiest (when there's a line unfortunately). I will check out Sullivan for sure.
